“In the beginning God created the heavens and the earth.” — Genesis 1:1
Before time began, before the mountains were formed, and before the heavens displayed their beauty, God already existed in eternal glory. He was not created. He was not dependent. He was not in need. He is the eternal “I AM,” the self-sufficient Creator who holds all things together by His power.
This truth gives great comfort to every believer. God did not create the world because He was lonely or incomplete. He created out of His fullness, wisdom, love, and glory. The heavens declare His glory, but they do not add to His glory. God is glorious in Himself.
John 1 reminds us that Jesus Christ, the eternal Word, was with God in the beginning and was God. Through Him all things were made. The Creator entered His own creation, not because He needed us, but because we desperately needed Him. In Christ, God revealed His love, mercy, and salvation.
Unlike idols that must be carried by human hands, our God carries His people. He says, “I have made, and I will bear; I will carry and will save” (Isa. 46:4). What a powerful promise! The God who created us is also the God who sustains us, restores us, and saves us.
Even though sin brought pain, decay, sorrow, and death into the world, God has not abandoned His creation. Through Jesus Christ, He is making all things new. Every believer becomes a new creation in Christ (2 Cor. 5:17). One day, God will bring a new heaven and a new earth, where there will be no more crying, pain, or death (Rev. 21:1–4).
Discipleship Application:
As disciples of Christ, we worship the self-sufficient God who needs nothing from us, yet graciously gives us life, salvation, and eternal hope through Jesus Christ. Because He carries, restores, and transforms us, we are called to live faithfully as His disciples and lead others to know the eternal Creator and Redeemer.
Prayer:
Lord, help me trust You completely. Renew my heart, strengthen my faith, and help me live with confidence in Your eternal love. Amen.
